Peacock Bass Fishing in Brazil
There’s a reason anglers travel thousands of miles to Brazil’s Amazon in pursuit of peacock bass. Explosive strikes. Brutal fights. Brilliant color. And somewhere in these remote rivers, the possibility of the fish you’ll talk about for the rest of your life. Amazon Peacock Bass Fishing takes anglers deep into the Brazilian Amazon to pursue these legendary freshwater predators in the waters Milton Fielding has fished for more than 40 years.
You can catch peacock bass in other parts of the world. But the giant peacock bass is native to South America. The unpredictability is part of what brings fishermen back. You aren’t visiting a stocked lake or manufactured fishing destination.
You’re fishing the Amazon.

Meet the Peacock Bass
Known locally as tucunaré, peacock bass are among the Amazon’s most sought-after sport fish—and once you’ve hooked one, it’s easy to understand why.
These powerful predators attack lures with extraordinary aggression, often exploding on topwater before making hard runs for submerged timber and cover. In the Amazon, anglers can encounter several varieties of peacock bass, including the prized giant or speckled peacock bass, Cichla temensis.
For many anglers, the ultimate goal is a trophy fish. But this experience isn’t only about what the scale says. A peacock bass doesn’t have to weigh 20 pounds to give you a fight you’ll remember.

"The Nelson Nakamura Rocket 140 is among my go-to lure. It's a topwater prop bait. I use topwater almost exclusively but my wife fishes the shallow divers. She fishes behind me and if I don't catch them, then she usually gets them next." - Milton
